Former U.S. First Lady Jill Biden said she believed Joe Biden was having a stroke during the presidential debate against Donald Trump in June 2024.
In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Jill said she was “terrified” while watching her husband’s performance on stage. According to her, it was the only time she had ever seen Biden in that condition.
“I thought, ‘My God, he’s having a stroke,’” Jill said, adding that the situation “scared her to death.”

The debate, held in Atlanta during the 2024 presidential campaign, generated widespread reaction across the United States after Joe Biden appeared hesitant, lost his train of thought at times, and struggled to complete some of his answers.
His performance increased pressure within the Democratic Party for him to withdraw from the reelection race. About a month later, Biden officially ended his presidential campaign and endorsed then-Vice President Kamala Harris.
The remarks are part of the promotion of Jill Biden’s memoir, View from the East Wing, as well as a broader interview that will air on CBS next Sunday (31).
